A look back at some of the best, hardest and most surprising parts of my week. Plus a few of my favorite photos. Sometimes, they’re even relevant.
The Good
Fun. This past week has felt like a whirlwind of fun. Checking out new places, hanging out in old favorites. Lots of great conversation and laughs with old friends and new. Portland is looking spectacular for it’s annual Rose Festival celebration. This week has felt so vibrant. And after last week in particular, that is very, very good.
The Bad
Difficult Conversations. Difficult conversations are just, so, well, difficult. It seems like the strongest instinct is to avoid them altogether, hoping the need for them will just go away. But it doesn’t usually happen that way, and tends to make things worse. How apropos that I’ve been prepping for next week’s class, Avoiding Avoidance. So, the conversations have happened with kindness and compassion. I survived, the other parties survived. Most importantly, things have been learned. If nothing more than remembering how great it feels once it has happened.
The Rad
Side Crow. I’ve been dabbling in yoga for years. I’ve never had a solid daily practice for long, but love to go to classes. Right now, I’m in a period of going to class at least once a week, and sometimes as many as three times. I really enjoy the teachers at my new gym. The teacher of one of the classes I’ve been frequenting, does a great job of making the class accessible for a variety of levels. It’s fun to have the opportunity to try some more challenging poses.
This week, we did a number of balances and binds that were pretty tricky. I fell more than once. At the end of class, he announced the final pose was side crow (sometimes called side crane). This arm balance pose has always fascinated and eluded me. Even though I didn’t have any expectations of being able to do it, I followed along as he guided us into the pose.
Suddenly I was there.
Strong, powerful, steady.
My favorite way to feel.
And you?
