A look back at some of the best, worst and most surprising parts of my week.
The Good
Discovering Another Feature. I just discovered this week that MotionX-Sleep that I’ve been raving about, has another feature I hadn’t yet discovered when I last wrote about it. It will play music or white noise when you start recording your sleep at night, and will shut itself off when it senses that you’re asleep. It has a full array of white noise options included, such as wind or waves, fans or airplane cabins, or you can choose something from your own collection. I’ve been using one of the 60-minute MantraWave selections from Wisdom Heart.
Rediscovered Treasure. I wanted some art for my wall, so I dug out my old portfolio from a drawing class in college and found a sketch to frame. While it’s far from perfect, I decided to let it be good enough. It looks great on my wall and might just inspire me to venture back into some arty and crafty adventures.
Parties! I hosted a friend’s birthday party last weekend. It was a great time, even though I ate far too much chocolate cake way too late in the night. But, mmmm. Friends + Chocolate Cake + Wine + Oh so much more = Goodness. Also, nothing like a party to get the house cleaned up. That’s what prompted my shelf buying last week, and also last minute art-framing. Sometimes you just need a worthwhile prompt to get to the things you’ve been meaning to do for forever.
The Bad
Waiting. There are things I want to share with you, but I can’t yet. It’s coming together, and I’ll be able to share details with you next week, but for now, gah, waiting! Oh, and you should know there will be gifts for you and your friends.
Also Waiting. Sunday’s the marathon. Have I mentioned that lately?! Training is done. Now I just have to pick up my packet and decide what I’m going to wear for an event that will start, according to the forecast, in the low forties and finish thirty degrees warmer. Oh, and then run the 26.2 damn miles. There’s that.
The Rad
MantraWave. Speaking of MantraWave, I’ve not only been listening to it at night, but in the mornings too.
In the mornings, I use it to guide me into my own meditation practice. It’s deepened my practice and helps me feel ready to start my day. I love that there are three different lengths of audios to choose from, with and without guided meditations.
The hour long ones are great for falling asleep at night, or playing as background while I work or do yoga or relax in the bath. The 10 minute ones are a great lead-in to my own meditation practice, or a wonderful way to get a deep 10 minutes of relaxation during the day in between projects.
If I’m feeling a little scattered the 30-minute guided meditations help me focus my attention and give me just a little extra boost.
As much as I’m using them, I feel like I’ve only touched on all the ways they can support me. If you’ve struggled to meditate on your own, they could be very helpful for you.
And you?
